EVENTS, WORKSHOPS AND VISITS: 2016-17 (Page 3 of 3)
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) related workshops, clubs, visits and activities at Ifield Community College in Crawley.
Due to the re-structuring of Enrichment Week at end of the academic year, D&T introduced CREST Awards to our Y8 students who have attended STEM Club this year and Y9 GCSE Product Design students.
These awards are certified by the British Science Association and recognised nationally both by employers and on further education applications.
Day 1 of 3 started with a 2 hour stop-frame animation workshop run by Curiosity Hub (http://thecuriosityhub.com).
Students made movies using plasticine, Lego figures and other pieces, taking a snap-shot before moving the scene slightly.
Day 2 of 3 started with a 3 hour workshop run by Exploring Senses (http://exploringsenses.co.uk).
Students first made their own sounds using magnetic electrical components. These sounds could then be uploaded and sampled before being played by designing and making ‘singing pictures’ using acrylic pens and conductive ink.
Day 3 of 3 was the CREST Award proper. Students had to individually design and make 'ZOETROPES'.
Congratulations to (Year 8s) Reece Cooper, Daryan DeKlerk, Mason Campbell, Grace Brokenshire, Tilly Fewtrell, Dylan Freeston, Samuel Lawrence-Bond, Aaron Burton, David Jones and (Year 9s) Emily Williams, Khalayi Wangamati, Caterina Dos Santos, Robbie Heath, Karshidan Gnanachandran
"During the summer holidays I spent 4 weeks doing work experience at Willmott Dixon. Willmott Dixon is a construction company, so I spent the time working on their project Gatwick Diamond in Crawley, delivering a £17m new office block for their client." (Vaiva Bauzaite at Wilmot Dixon)
